Summary: Chapbook anthologies, 2008

6. Chapbooks

Two chapbook anthologies came my way in 2008:

Home and Away, edited by John Benson;
The Homeless Moon (no editor listed).

10 stories, all short (two short-shorts), about 30,000 words. 4 stories by women (40%), and 4 SF (40%).

Not much to say here. Two very slim books, both produced in classic chapbook fashion, 8.5 by 11 pages folded in half and saddle-stapled. I briefly discussed Home and Away in my entry of John Benson's magazine Not One of Us. As for The Homeless Moon, it includes stories by Michael J. DeLuca, Jason S. Ridler, Scott H. Andrews, Erin Hoffman, and Justin Howe, all fairly new writers (I recognize most of the names) -- the book serves as sort of a showcase of recent, somewhat experimental work. I think I preferred DeLuca's "Construction Paper Moon" of these stories, though all were at least interesting, if not wholly successful.

Dear Rich,

Thanks for reviewing the chapbook and glad you liked Mike's story. We should have another out this summer.

All the best,

Jay Ridler
